Disasters on Project Runway

I've been a fan of Project Runway for a while but I never really ever watched it every week unless it's a marathon. Since I have time this summer I've watched the first two episodes. But this season has been so bad I just can't help but ridicule it...

Episode 1... the challenge was that they had to incorporate a piece they got from another designer into their own design.

Gretchen's Winning Design: Episode 1

The winning designer for this week presents us with a plain black dress and applicant shoulder pads. In my opinion the beading doesn't even look like it belongs on the dress. I guess she was going for the D.I.Y. patch work style? The top is lose in the front but apparently that's where the extra fabric went from for the back. Not sure why she chose to have the bottom of the back showing but it looks like she forgot another piece of the dress. the skirt portion is cute but very very plain and boring, not very innovative.

Apparently, simpler is better?

You know after looking at this design again... I wonder if Nicholas took this as some sort of inspiration for his own design that got him eliminated during Episode 2. The partially open back doesn't work in either case in my honest opinion. Gretchen just did it earlier and made it slightly longer which is probably the only minor difference.

To address the elimination, keeping

the guy that didn't sew and commented on how he couldn't help but be distracted by the nekkid model in front of him (ewwww creepy) Backward Kimono with staples

Then getting rid of the woman that created a very cute outfit but just accessorized wrong (according to the judges... even the other designer thought her choices were cute - remember the whispering?) Militaristic meets country

is very disturbing.

Episode 2... the challenge was to create an outfit that would be featured on a billboard in times square that represented the Marie Claire woman.

Let's face it, they said the "Marie Claire" woman is supposed to be intelligent, beautiful, fashion-forward, and practical.

Gretchen's Winning Design: Episode 2

Doesn't this outfit SCREAM it (yes that is sarcasm). This means you should be smart and be green so recycle your (or your mother's) old jumpsuit. Beauty can be manipulated, so make your butt look bigger with tighter leggings. Fashion is constantly cycling so being fashion-forward just means taking examples from the past. Go the extra mile with a loose kimono style top to create a sexy element. Remember making others think you might accidently expose your brest through the side creates flair and don't forget that having the small of your back create a shadow resembling that of a butt crack gives that extra sexy oomph in a practical non-revealing way. If your jumpsuit is made out of dark blue material, such as that resembling a jean color, it will be easier to clean after a good day working on the farm, in the garage, or just about anywhere else :)

Coco's blog post with her on the billboard

I admit, the billboard looks cool. You can't really tell it's a jumpsuit from that angle and distance. Not to mention, the model is really beautiful and automatically captures your attention. You barely notice what she's wearing. Hell she'd look good in a potato sack and still represent the "Marie Claire" woman. It would have been nice if the result was a little more... OMG I WOULD LOVE HER OUTFIT instead of OMG SHE'S SO HOTT... especially for Project Runway.

Other 2 designs in the top 3 (not chosen as winner)
Mondo's
Valerie's

To address the elimination,

I'm so glad they booted Jason, they just couldn't justify keeping safety pin creepy guy there

But, did they have to vote off Nicholas? Maybe after last week's disaster they thought they'd fix it by voting off two people they think should go? Great construction/ideas but poor exhicution with the cape and open back. Loved the skirt but apparently, it didn't work for the judges either :(

Oh well hopefully it improves this next episode? If not, I'll have more material to work with for my blog lol
